Editorial policy

veldrim.online is an advertising-funded site. That creates an obvious incentive to write flattering things about whatever we are paid to link to. This page sets out the rules we work to so that we do not, and it tells you how to hold us to them.

Who writes this site

Editorial content is published under the responsibility of BARABAS AVLST s.r.o.. The director of publication and responsible editor is Steven Davis, who is also the author of the articles currently on the site and who signs each one by name. There is no anonymous or unattributed editorial content here. If an outside contributor ever writes for the site, the article will carry their name and any relevant interest they hold will be declared on the page.

Articles are written by people. We do not publish machine-generated text as if it were reported work, and we do not publish text that nobody has read and checked before it goes up.

How we establish facts

Our rules for factual claims, in order of preference:

  1. Primary sources first. Product specifications, prices, tier contents, quotas and guarantees are taken from the manufacturer's own published pages, not from other review sites, not from press releases and not from memory. When we consult a vendor page we record the date and say so in the article.
  2. Independent measurement over vendor claims. Where performance or detection quality is at issue, we point to independent laboratories that publish their methodology, rather than repeating a vendor's own figure.
  3. Cite, and let the reader check. Every article carries a sources section naming what we relied on, so a reader can go and disagree with us from the same material.
  4. Hedge what we cannot verify. If we cannot establish something, we either leave it out or say plainly that it is uncertain. We do not split the difference by stating it confidently and hoping.
  5. Never invent a number. No statistic, percentage, specification or price appears on this site unless we can attribute it. A plausible-sounding figure with no source is a fabrication, and we treat it as one.
  6. The manufacturer's information prevails. Product details change constantly and vary by country. Where anything we publish diverges from the manufacturer's own current information, theirs is correct and ours is out of date.

How this site is funded

veldrim.online has no subscriptions, no paywall and no display advertising network. It is funded by affiliate commission: some links are partner links, and where a reader buys after following one, BARABAS AVLST s.r.o. may receive a payment from the advertiser. This never increases the reader's price and is never a condition of anything on the site.

What that means in practice, and what we commit to:

Advertiser independence

Advertisers and affiliate networks do not review our articles before publication. They have no right of approval, no right of reply built into the publishing process, and no ability to require a change. If an advertiser asks us to remove an unfavourable statement that we believe to be accurate, we decline, and we will say on the page that we were asked.

We will end a commercial relationship rather than change an accurate statement. We consider an article a failure if it cannot tell a reader that the product is not worth buying in their situation — which is why our current article says exactly that about several categories of reader, and says that the protection built into their operating system may already be sufficient.

What we refuse to do

These are not aspirations. They are prohibitions, and breaking one is grounds for pulling the article.

Corrections

We publish corrections rather than quietly editing pages, because a correction that nobody can see is indistinguishable from a cover-up.

  1. Tell us. Write to info@veldrim.online with the page, the statement you believe is wrong, and anything you have that shows it. Our postal address is on the contact page.
  2. We acknowledge within five working days, and sooner where the claim is material.
  3. We check it against a primary source. If you are right, we fix it.
  4. Material errors are logged on the page. A correction of a factual claim that could have affected a reader's decision is recorded in a visible corrections section on the article itself, describing what was wrong and what it now says. Typographical fixes are not logged.
  5. Serious errors are removed immediately while we check, rather than being left up pending investigation.

The article currently on this site carries such a corrections section, listing several claims in an earlier version that were wrong — including a fabricated statistic and three features attributed to a product tier that does not contain them. We left the list visible on purpose.

Updates and dating

Every article shows its publication date and the date it was last reviewed. Where an article depends on facts that change — product tiers, prices, availability — it says when those facts were checked and against what.

Comments and user content

This site has no comment section, no forum and no user-submitted content of any kind. This is partly an editorial choice and partly a privacy one: hosting user content would mean collecting and storing personal data, which we have chosen not to do.

Contact

Editorial questions, corrections, complaints and right-of-reply requests all go to info@veldrim.online, addressed to Steven Davis, director of publication.
